US surgeons successfully test a pig kidney transplant in a human patient

Surgeons have successfully transplanted a pig’s kidney into a human and watched it go into action, a small step in the decades-old quest to use animal organs for life-saving transplants.

Surgeons attached the pig’s kidney to a pair of large blood vessels outside the deceased recipient’s body and monitored it for two days. And the kidneys did what they had to do – filter waste and excrete urine – and didn’t stimulate rejection.
