We are witnessing an all-out war on America’s health. Conspiracy-obsessed Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is out to turn back the clock on centuries of medical progress. He is able to do so because President Donald Trump cares more about his friendship with a Kennedy than keeping Americans healthy.
RFK Jr. is Trying to Make America Sick Again
When he was appointed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services, RFK Jr. promised he would make America healthy again. Sounds familiar? His MAHA movement was met with initial enthusiasm, but it has since turned into a disaster. RFK Jr. is primarily using his new function to fight a war on vaccines, while not having a comprehensive plan on how to execute his other ideas.
RFK Jr. slashed the funding for mRNA vaccine research, fired the members of the CDC vaccine advisory committee, and restricted access to COVID vaccines. He is also hell bent on giving new life to the conspiracy theory that vaccines cause autism. These kinds of moves have even made some Republicans unsettled as they joined their Democrat counterparts in grilling RFK Jr. during a recent Senate hearing. Sen. John Barrasso, a longtime physician, said that he has “grown deeply concerned” because of his actions. “I would say, effectively, we’re denying people a vaccine,” Sen. Bill Cassidy, who was a deciding vote to confirm RFK Jr., pointed out.
Trump Isn’t Happy, but His Ego is More Important
There are several reports indicating that Trump isn’t too happy with the way RFK Jr. is performing in his role. Trump was reportedly “irritated” with the decision to fire Susan Monarez as the head of the CDC after just one month in the position. In recent days, RFK Jr. was also instructed to “tone down his rhetoric.” While there hasn’t been direct criticism, Trump did counter the rhetoric of RFK Jr. by telling reporters that vaccines are “not controversial at all” and they “just pure and simple work.”
Despite calls to have him fired, there is nothing indicating that RFK Jr. is in jeopardy as Health Secretary. The Kennedy name means a lot to Americans, and Trump is no different. It boosts his ego that he has a Kennedy as part of his cabinet and inside his friendship circle. It’s something he probably brags about to anyone who is willing to listen, so don’t expect him to give up on that even if the health of Americans is jeopardized.
RFK Jr. Needs to Be Stopped
We can only hope that Trump can at least stop RFK Jr. from doing even more damage. If he continues with his conspiracy-fueled ideas, diseases we believed we had already beaten could promptly return to wreak havoc. The public could become more skeptical about medicine and science while unqualified people are trusted with creating critical health policies.
