Selena Gomez expressed her solidarity with Hailey Bieber by sharing a message on her Instagram Story on Friday. The “Calm Down” hitmaker urged her fans to be kind and empathetic towards Bieber, who has been at the receiving end of brutal trolls and online bullying following the alleged social media drama involving her and Kylie Jenner.
Gomez, 30, wrote: “Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this to all stop.”
Selena Gomez’s post was prompted by an alleged online dispute involving Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner last month. The incident occurred after some social media users accused Hailey and Kylie of mocking Gomez over her Instagram Story about her over-laminated eyebrows. However, both Kylie and Gomez swiftly denied the accusations.
In a TikTok video, Kylie stated, “This is reaching. no shade towards selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly.” Gomez also expressed her agreement with Kylie’s statement, commenting, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
Not before long, Gomez and Bieber got involved in another drama. After a resurfaced video of Hailey Bieber mocking Taylor Swift went viral, Selena Gomez commented on the clip in support of her BFF. In the video, Hailey Bieber appeared alongside co-host Method Man in her old show Drop the Mic. When the rapper mentioned “Taylor Swift’s last album,” Hailey reacted by feigning a gag reflex, sticking out her tongue, and rolling her eyes. Gomez took to the comments section of the viral clip to write, “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game.”
Gomez announced her decision to take a break from social media following the drama that ensued. She stated in a TikTok video, “I’m going to be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly. I’m 30, and am too old for this. But I love you so much, and I’ll see you guys sooner [rather] than later.”
However, the singer later posted a makeup tutorial on the same platform, expressing her gratitude and urging kindness toward others’ mental health. She wrote in the comments section, “Thank you and love you all so much. I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy. Please, please be kinder and consider others’ mental health. My heart has been heavy, and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”
