Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II welcomed world leaders participating in the United Nations Climate Summit in a pre-recorded video message, saying, “The time for talk has now turned into a time for action.”
In the video message shown on Monday, during ceremonies to welcome heads of state and government, the Queen said she hoped the conference “will be one of the rare occasions when everyone has the opportunity to rise above the politics of this moment and show statesmanship”.
“History has shown that when nations come together for a common cause, there is always room for hope,” she added in the video clip recorded last Friday at Windsor Palace.
Paying tribute to her late husband, Prince Philip, the Queen said she was always happy to receive environmental delegations because it was an issue close to Philip’s heart.
In a rare public expression of emotion, the Queen said she “could not be more proud” that Prince Philip’s work for the environment continues through that of their eldest son Prince Charles and son Prince William.
