Lava has flowed from the La Palma volcano, threatening more devastation on the Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean, as currents of molten rock destroy and severely damage more than 1,000 buildings.
The partial collapse of the crater during the night resulted in a new lava stream that began to follow a similar path down the Cumbre Vieja mountain range towards the island’s western shore towards the ocean.
La Palma, with a population of about 85,000 people, is part of the Spanish Canary Islands, an archipelago off northwest Africa.
