Covid-19 isn’t the most and first blood-curdling global pandemic. Even earlier the world has witnessed the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance, 2003 SARS outbreak, Ebola, Chikungunya Virus, Zika, HIV/AIDS, etc. which proves that they weren’t the last ones and there are chances that similar diseases or outbreaks take a turn to target the humankind back and forth.
Such a phenomenon doesn’t just make the world go head over heels but also questions the health systems on a global stage. Intense and multiple rivalries have been observed on political and economic issues. Undoubtedly, in order to strengthen a nation or the world economy and politics are given utmost importance but in all this chaos the foremost sector is left undiscovered. It is the health sector, well-being is the white elephant of the room which no one looks forward to addressing. The current scenario can be used to set benchmarks by the international players to resolve the pandemic crisis. This goal can be garnered by joint international cooperation, multilateralism, and global cohesion. All this leads us to global well-being diplomacy. Addressing inequities, global health security, and stronger & robust health systems arenas need to get into the limelight to get closer to accomplishing global health targets.
Well-being can be achieved with strong partnerships, better policies & initiatives. When all these will come from different geographical and within the minds of different players then the results and programs will be much more improved and diversified. Further, universal access to primary sources of healthcare should be followed practically as it is a fundamental aspect and surrounded by humanitarian grounds. National and international discussions and programs are required to get fabricated to improve the well-being or governance of health systems. The debate demands enormous coverage and solutions which tends to show changes and revamp the current situation. There are times when a single nation, be it extremely powerful, still requires cross-borders support. Various diseases or outbreaks are beyond the potential of a single nation, which is why well-being diplomacy is significant. Physically or mentally, it should be the right of each and every person to practice and experience the state of well-being. Threats should never be faced or addressed by a single country, it must be divided in order to tackle the issue on a global stage and with an easy approach.
According to Prof Nabhit kapur, it is not necessary that each country is equally equipped or capable of fighting against a particular threat. So, well-being diplomacy needs to be treated as a crucial arena globally. Instead of having political debates all the time, we must also gather to hold discussions on well-being, along with framing political and economic policies we must focus on setting up well-being guidelines and schemes. In the absence of a global approach to well-being diplomacy, the world might end up losing a lot and gaining nothing. Thus, it a dire need to prove the efficacy collectively. Well-being diplomacy should be a universal objective, the day we realize it, lives will revamp robotically.
