In business it is rare to find someone who is able to build a successful enterprise by themselves. Leadership responsibilities and upholding every aspect that makes up an efficient business, is both unnecessarily risky and taxing. For that reason, Devin Anderson strives to surround himself with individuals that are willing to level up and change the status quo. Devin advocates that surrounding yourself with the right kind of people is what makes or breaks a business.
The CEO and founder of SourceNRG, a record-breaking solar installation and sales company, Devin is disrupting the industry through his unique and innovative approach to business. Having worked in many industries at every level, Devin has acquired a wealth of business sense and knowledge about building a business from the ground up. “I felt like no one could do it better. I’ve worked in the corporate arena, the smaller “mom and pop” arena, and the 1099 arena. There is no equalizer, no organization that did everything exceptionally well across the board.” From independent sales contractor to owning his own business, Devin personally understands what makes an exceptional employee.
While Devin believes that quality employees are necessary, he feels strongly that those same employees must have a purpose for being in the company.
“Don’t try to find talented people that don’t have a specific role in your organization because you will never “make it work.” Define the role clearly, and then find the talented person. One of the biggest mistakes I have made is finding incredibly talented people that served no purpose within our organization at the current time, and I wanted them because they looked good on the roster and sounded like a great idea. While in reality, they didn’t serve a specific function in our company. Now, we do the opposite. We get granular on the function of the business that we need to fill, and then we find the talent for that role.”
Devin speaks to the fact that if someone has great prior accolades and has clear talent, it does not necessarily mean that they are a good fit for your business. In order to contribute effectively to a company, one must have an active, definable role, as well as a specific purpose in order to add value to the business.
Devin Anderson mentors leaders, and only surrounds himself with people that are willing and capable of personal and professional growth. The outcome is a community of intrinsically motivated individuals that push themselves and each other to better themselves in all aspects of life. Great leaders influence and inspire their team consistently, and as a result, their team is empowered to help the organization fulfill its purpose while achieving their goals.
