On Sunday, Kylie Jenner responded to the Astroworld concert tragedy. This tragedy has been confirmed to have taken eight lives, including a fourteen-year-old boy. The reality TV star expressed that her partner Travis Scott was “unaware of any fatalities” until the show ended. “In no world would we have continued filming or performing,” she stated.
The annual Astroworld event was held at NRG Park on Friday night. Houston officials have confirmed that an estimated fifty thousand people attended the event. Early reports suggest that a crowd surge began shortly after 9 pm. This quickly led to panic and fatal crushing within the packed crowd.
On Saturday, Scott made his statement via social media. He shared that he was “absolutely devastated.” In his statement, he expressed his support for the Houston PD, which dealt with the chaos and aftermath of the deadly disaster.
“My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life,” Travis stated.
Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner, has also responded to Friday night’s tragic events. Stating that at this time, “There are a lot of unanswered questions.” He has also shared that investigations into the deadly crush have only just begun. “Over the next several days, several weeks — could be even longer — we’ll take an in-depth look at everything that took place. Why it took place and what steps we can do moving forward to mitigate an incident of this kind from taking place at any other point in time,” Turner explained during an interview with CNN.
At least twenty-five people have been confirmed to be hospitalized due to injuries sustained at the event. Thirteen people are still receiving hospital treatment. Despite Jenner’s comments in defense of her partner, serious questions are still being asked. Why was Scott still performing while first responders were attending to major casualties? Friday night’s tragedy is now being described as one of the US’s deadliest live music events.
