The death of a 2-year-old child, discovered on a road close to her home after her parents had put her to bed, is being investigated by Michigan authorities. Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers from the Jackson Post responded to a report of a “car versus a pedestrian crash” on the 200 block of Chicago Street in Allen Township, Hillsdale County, on Friday, September 13, at around 8:20 p.m. local time. The MSP First District account revealed the information in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
Troopers Find Toddler on the Road
According to the MSP statement, when police got to the site, they found a “2-year-old female toddler lying in the road.” The girl was taken to Hillsdale Hospital right after, but she tragically passed away from her wounds. The identities of those involved in the event have not been made public by the authorities.
On Wednesday, September 18, Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez of the MSP gave an update, stating that the investigation is still ongoing. Gonzalez said, “At this moment, we have no new information to release.”
Child Struck by Vehicle, Investigation Ongoing
“A first responder was on scene performing life-saving measures, and troopers assisted until EMS arrived and took over medical treatment,” the MSP said in its initial statement. The toddler’s parents had put her to bed, according to the preliminary investigation. Still, she subsequently fled the house without anybody noticing while they were doing some work around the house.
Tragically, a 2012 VW Jetta being driven by a 38-year-old Allen, Michigan man struck the youngster. The statement from the authorities was that “alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.” The infant will get an autopsy on schedule.
