There’s nothing quite like a sports tournament to get the blood pumping and the competitive spirit flowing. Whether you’re lucky enough to be able to watch live and in person, or you’ve managed to get a group of friends together to gather around the television, there’s always a good time to be had with the sport on. There are a whole host of tournaments occurring in March this year, with some spreading even further than the whole month. This is the lowdown on the ones that are guaranteed to have the most exciting and nail-biting moments.
The Cheltenham Festival
If you’re not so into the world of horse racing then you might not have even heard of the Cheltenham Festival, but it is one of the most hotly anticipated racing festivals on the British Calendar. Next to the Grand National, it holds the highest prize pool for a National Hunt race, with the Cheltenham Gold Cup. This race day is particularly well attended and enjoying the action even from your own home on the tv is fast-paced and exciting. This year’s Gold Cup promises to be a particularly close run event, with Galopin des Champs just ahead of A Plus Tard, Noble Yeats, and Bravemansgame. All four horses have proven themselves to be formidable opponents over fences during the last season, so it will be truly fascinating to see which of these big names comes out on top.
The European Poker Tour
Our next pick is perhaps an unusual one, as whether poker truly is a sport is up for debate. However, in terms of fierce competition, it doesn’t get much fiercer than the European Poker Tour. It’s kicking off in Monte-Carlo this April and is guaranteed to be as nail-biting as ever. If you watch the tournament and fancy your chances then getting in a bit of practice online is a good way to sharpen up your skills. It’s straightforward to play at 888poker and with ongoing promotions they provide a good value site for those who are new to the game. Once you feel you’ve mastered the basics, you might want to enter an online tournament, or head straight to the EPT, the choice is yours.

Men’s Rugby Union Six Nations
Any rugby fans will be only too aware that we’ve already seen three rounds of the Six Nations, but there are still plenty to go and we can’t wait for them. Round four will welcome Wales vs Ireland and England vs Scotland on the 4th of February, followed by Italy vs France on the 5th. There will be further matches to eliminate the stragglers on the 11th and 12th of March, as well as the 18th. It’s been an impressive year already so far, so we can’t wait to see what’s in store next. Of course, if you’d rather watch the women’s national teams playing then things kick off for them on the 25th of March, with Wales vs Ireland and England vs Scotland. English fans ought to be watching with bated breath, as it was the women’s national football team who took home the football World Cup for them most recently. Certainly a much bigger success compared to the one achieved by the men´s team in Qatar, who lost in the quarter-finals to France (who then lost the final to Argentina).
