The MLB is a very competitive league, which is why it’s always surprising to see a team completely flounder in each game. The Colorado Rockies are that team in 2025, getting off to the worst 50-game start in over a century. They currently boast an 8-42 overall record, with a run differential of -159. To put that into perspective, the closest run differential to them is the Baltimore Orioles at -99. Suffice it to say, Colorado has been horrendous.
Colorado Gets ZERO Help from The Mound
Even if a team isn’t the best when it comes to hitting baseball, the least you can hope for is that they have a strong pitching group. Colorado doesn’t even have a respectable pitching rotation. They currently rank dead last in the league when it comes to team ERA at 5.82. The next closest team is the Miami Marlins at 5.46, but there are only six teams at the moment that are even above the 4.65 mark.
To avoid being a generationally bad baseball team, their pitching would need to be average or even below average. Unfortunately, it is the league-worst by a mile, surrendering 523 runs over that 50-game stretch. Twenty-one of those runs were also scored in a single game against the San Diego Padres.
The Bats Aren’t Connecting for The Rockies Either
The Rockies are the third-worst team in the league according to their batting average of .219. This has them tied for the second-worst position in the league alongside the Pittsburgh Pirates and just .03 away from the Chicago White Sox (who occupy last place). Simply put, their batting order isn’t helping their pitching rotation, the same way that the rotation isn’t supporting their order.
Colorado as a whole has just 362 total hits on the season as a team and is 26th in the MLB with 43 home runs hit. It doesn’t matter where you look on this Rockies roster, you find problems and horrible statistics to partner with them. They don’t hit the ball well, can’t pitch up to par with other professional teams, and rank towards the bottom of the barrel in fielding percentage.
