The Media Is Taking The Caitlin Clark And Angel Reese Rivalry Too Far

1 Mins read

The WNBA has never been more popular than it is in 2025, and a significant portion of that attention can be attributed to the rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. What started as simple trash talk has since evolved into a war, with the media using both of them as pawns in their battles that extend beyond basketball.

Fans Now Believe This Feud Is More Than Just Basketball

Whether Reese and Clark genuinely dislike one another is not for us to decide, but the media speculation has created a problem that now exceeds its original scope. In a contest early on in the 2025 season, Reese was reportedly the victim of hate speech during a game against Clark. Reese said that there’s no room for that in the WNBA, and she’d be correct.

Unfortunately, Clark has suffered from similar hate speech. Just recently, the league started an investigation into racism claims involving both players and the fans. They didn’t find any evidence to support that, yet it shows the larger issue at hand now.

Instead of this being a simple battle between young basketball stars, the media has convinced people to believe that both athletes are figures in a larger war. Now, the hatred and projection cast upon them take the attention off the sport.

Negative Media Attention Is Bleeding Onto The Court

Lately, the negativity surrounding the rivalry has bled onto the court. Clark recently gave Reese a hard foul to prevent her from getting a wide-open layup. The move may not have been a traditional basketball one, but it was still a smart foul; nothing malicious about it. Reese didn’t take it that way, and as you can imagine, the media ran with that.

The best way for this to blow over is for both of them to compete on the court while ignoring the outside noise. Unfortunately, it appears that both players and the rest of the WNBA are responding to what the media and fans are saying, and it’s causing more drama and chaos than necessary.
