It seems Trump is more than happy to compromise national security just to help his BFF, Elon Musk. Even a direct order from the Supreme Court couldn’t deter Trump.
The Supreme Court announced its majority decision to uphold the ‘Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act,’ proposed (and passed with bipartisan support) last year. The bill was introduced when Congress expressed worry about the risk of espionage from China since TikTok is controlled by ByteDance, a Chinese company.
All the Drama about TikTok Going Dark
On the eve of Saturday, just hours before the ban would take place, the TikTok app’s home page went dark. Millions of TikTok users opened the app on their phones and saw this message – “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

After this passive-aggressive statement, something suddenly changed. The social media network restored service the very next day, citing an executive order from Donald Trump. A new message appeared on the TikTok screen – “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S..”

But why is Trump suddenly pro-China? Has his deep-seated resentment and anti-Chinese rhetoric disappeared?
It hasn’t.
This change of heart is simply because Elon now wants to buy TikTok. Musk (the “co-president” of America) stated on X this week that the present scenario in which TikTok is permitted to function in America but X is not permitted to operate in China is unfair (Mr. Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion and renamed it “X” last year).

Elon wants something, so how can Trump possibly refuse? At a press conference, when a reporter asked President Trump if he would be open to Musk purchasing the platform, he answered, “I would be if he wanted to buy it.” The only question is, how long will their love story last, and how much will it cost America?
