Trump Can Still Count on Transphobia to Score Points with Voters

1 Mins read

Donald Trump relied heavily on discrimination against transgender community as part of his presidential campaign. His transphobia ended up helping him win a second term in the Oval Office and, according to a recent survey, is still scoring him points with voters.

Trump Has the Support of Americans in His Anti-Trans Hate

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research surveyed in early May to find out how Americans feel about Trump’s approach to transgender issues. It showed that even as Trump’s overall approval is declining, he still has the support of Americans in his anti-trans hate.

Out of 1,175 U.S. adults who took part in the survey, 52% approve of Trump’s transgender policies.  On the other hand, only 42% think positively of the job he’s doing as president. As expected, 90% of Republicans are fully behind his transphobic agenda, but so are 19% of Democrats and 48% of independent voters.

Trump’s Transgender Policies Are a Tough Pill to Swallow

Trump’s transgender policies are a tough pill to swallow. They fuel the anti-trans hate and marginalize transgender community. Unfortunately, he doesn’t consider these consequences and continues his push to give conservatives what they want and win over the neutrals. But even they think some of his moves are extreme.

For example, Trump signed an executive order to ban transgender men and women from serving in the military as soon as he stepped into office. It turns out that 73% of U.S. adults disagree or feel neutral about the ban. Additionally, 56% of adult Americans aren’t in favor of his policy that requires teachers to issue a notice to parents if their child is identifying as transgender or nonbinary.

Trump Won’t Succeed in Making Trans People Invisible

Trump’s end goal is to exclude trans people from society and make them invisible. But that is never happening despite all his efforts. The support for transgender community is constantly growing, and there are far more people who will not let their fellow Americans be mistreated regardless of how they identify.
