If you’ve been at a political rally or press conference in recent times, you’re likely to have heard the phrase “saving democracy.” Politicians easily throw this phrase around in a bid to gain voters’ support. They want citizens to chant it loudly and blindly without asking questions. However, several Americans are beginning to uncover the deception and the hollowness behind these words.
“Saving Democracy” as a Buzzword for Control
It’s becoming clearer with each passing day that “saving democracy” is simply a tool for control in the hands of the political elite. It is used as a means to preserve power rather than protect the people’s voice. This phrase has become weaponized and used to shut down meaningful dialogue from opposing camps. Opposing views such as being against DEI programs are now seen as a bigot and anti-democracy. Those in power have mastered the art of gaslighting, while shying away from civic engagement.
When you hear the elites championing democracy, you might be tempted to believe them. However, their actions reveal their true motive. It is no longer a democracy when powerful politicians control mainstream media news to sway public opinion or when they use government tools to undercut political enemies. Such actions look a lot more like autocracy and are becoming the norm in American politics.
The Rebellion: Voters Aren’t Falling For It Anymore
The last elections showed that the public firmly rejects this control, which was why many voted for Trump. Despite being convicted of a felony, voters threw their weight behind him. By the next morning of his conviction, almost $35 million had been donated to support his campaign. Interestingly, 30% of it came from first-time donors.
Americans didn’t see the verdict as justice being served, but further proof of corruption. So, the rise of the MAGA movement and what many call Trumpism was simply a rebellion against the established elite system. For so long, the elites, especially democrats, have employed deceptive tactics. People could no longer bear the lies and deception, which is why they looked for an alternative.
