Many believed Trump’s actions and words were meant to force Europe to stand on its own. Yet, those in the know understand it was a plot to make Europe beg for bullets. Thanks to Trump’s threats, NATO decided to spend 5 percent of its GDP on defense.
With this smart move by the U.S. President, Washington will remain militarily dominant, while Europe will be retooled into a satellite ware economy. With all of these going on, we need to ask, who really profits from this militarized takeover?
Europe’s Military Boom is Made in America
Europe is shifting from industry to infantry, and the fact that Rheinmetall, Germany’s top arms maker, has a higher market value than Volkswagen is proof of this. Despite this military boom, the U.S military tech is still greater than Europe’s.
As a result, most advanced missile systems, surveillance platforms, and battlefield software will be imported from the United States. While France and Germany spend hundreds of billions on weapons, the biggest winners are American contractors like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, and not Europe.
This is simply a war economy that is fueled by U.S. tech but funded by European taxpayers.
Trump’s Pressure Gave Brussels Cover for a War Agenda
The interesting thing about all of these is that Trump didn’t even have to drag Europe into war spending. All he did was make the whole thing easy to justify. With his speech at the NATO summit, he made it seem like European leaders were being forced into self-reliance.
Yet, there is a much darker truth. Trump’s bullying just gave most European countries and the EU itself the perfect excuse for militarization. The sad part about all of these is that most countries will have to cut their budget on healthcare and education. For instance, spending 5% more on the military will cost Spain a whopping €300 billion.
With this move, Europe is gradually sidelining democracy and making permanent war the new normal under the pretense of defense. But who exactly is Europe defending, and who is actually in charge?
