Republicans Want to Kill Americans to Pay for Tax Breaks

1 Mins read

A woman was dragged out of a House hearing on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, because she voiced concerns for her life amidst the bill hearing to slash Medicaid. It was heartbreaking to hear the HIV-positive Ohio activist, who was also in a wheelchair, cry out, “You will kill me.”

Her heartfelt cry was no joke, as Medicaid covers her $10,000-a-month medication. There are many other cases like hers; however, Republicans are pushing forward to cut $880 billion from the healthcare program.

What’s even more painful is that the cut is not proposed to fund some other noble cause but to pay for Donald Trump’s tax breaks. The situation begs several questions: Are Republicans prepared to exchange the lives of Americans to satisfy their leader, Trump? And who is really footing the bills for these cuts?

A Tradeoff Worth Dying For?

If the bill is passed, 8.6 million Americans will lose Medicaid, according to the Congressional Budget Office. It’s even more jarring to note that Republicans themselves estimate at least 7.6 million will be affected. Despite these alarming statistics, they remain unfazed and heartless to the cries of the citizens.

According to the proposed bill, strict work requirements will be imposed and eligibility checks will be done twice a year. Republicans say this is to cut waste and fraud in the program and ensure that actual people in need are receiving health support.

However, these requirements and checks mean more paperwork and red tape. As a result, there is a higher chance that many individuals who actually need this support and qualify for it fall through the cracks.

A report has said that there is the possibility that 36 million Americans could risk losing coverage. That’s the number of lives Republicans are risking losing.

Billionaires Win, the Poor Pay

With all these going on, Republicans in the Ways and Means Committee want to permanently extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts. If you recall, these tax cuts only benefited the top 1%. 60% of Americans could experience tax hikes if those cuts expire in 2026, according to the Tax Foundation.

Instead of the GOP lawmakers redesigning a tax plan that is fair to all citizens, they are cutting healthcare. All of this is just a bid to keep those corporate giveaways alive and make the billionaires happy.
