How Mayor Eric Adams Dodged Corruption Charges by Siding with Trump?

2 Mins read

Want to get away from corruption charges? Just swear fealty to Trump. One doesn’t need to be a Republican—even Democrats can take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime scheme. Just look at NYC Mayor Eric Adams. He shook hands with Trump, and the White House passed an executive order to drop federal corruption charges against him.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Mayor elections are on the horizon, and Eric Adams can now focus on his re-election campaign without worrying about the NY mayor corruption case. Aligning with Trump should also help score some brownie points with centrist and right-leaning voters.

Democratic mayor Adams has promised to help Trump in implementing his draconian immigration policies. He even met Trump’s border czar and promised to allow ICE back into the “Sanctuary City.”

What is the NY Mayor Corruption Case?

Federal prosecutors slapped NYC mayor Eric Adams with bribery and fraud charges. As per the official filing, Adams is charged with “abuse of power” and is facing five criminal courts. It also includes accepting illegal gifts of over $100,000 from Turkish officials for certain favors and wire fraud charges.

In one specific instance, Adams received a discounted stay at St. Regis Hotel in Istanbul for $300 a day, which usually costs $3500 for a day. He additionally received campaign contributions from Turkish sources using “straw donors” and created “fake paper trails” to hide it.

In exchange for lavish trips and bribes, Mayor Eric Adams, allegedly, cuts ties with the Turkish community center in New York that are “hostile” to the present Turkish government. In another case, Adams pressured the New York Fire Department to skip the fire inspection for the new Turkish consular building.

Federal Prosecutors Are Refusing to Back Down

Trump might have signed the executive order, and his DOJ lackeys might have issued the notice to drop charges against Mayor Adams, but New York prosecutors are not backing down.

Federal prosecutors in NY and Washington chose to resign instead of following the White House order to drop the corruption charges against Adams. White House in the order argues that the NY mayor corruption case against mayor Eric Adams is hampering his ability to tackle “illegal immigration.”

Danielle Sassoon, the U.S. attorney for New York, in her eight-page resignation letter, attacked the DOJ’s order, saying she was “baffled” by the “rushed” and “superficial” order.

Sassoon, a registered Republican, added that the DOJ’s interest in dismissing the NY mayor corruption case is to push “Trump’s crusade” against migration. Along with Sassoon, two senior federal prosecutors in Washington also resigned rather than drop charges against Mayor Adams.
