President Donald Trump is continuing to attack American cities, both with his words and with his use of military forces. For weeks now, the Trump administration has done its very best to make blue cities appear to be an active war zone. Many Trump officials have repeatedly claimed that we’re in an “insurrection” and that these ICE protestors in cities like Chicago and Portland are “insurrectionists.”
Trump’s comments this week have explained why the administration is using such strong wording when describing the very Americans they’re supposed to represent: Trump is desperate to invoke the Insurrection Act.
In the Oval Office, Trump explained that he was considering invoking this act, particularly because federal judges had blocked him from legally deploying troops to cities like Portland, Oregon.
“We have an Insurrection Act for a reason,” Trump said to reporters. “If I had to enact it, I’d do it, if people were being killed and courts were holding us up, or governors or mayors were holding us up.”
This threat may indeed happen before we all realize it.
The Trump Administration Is Creating an Insurrection
This isn’t the first time Trump has expressed a desire to invoke the Insurrection Act. He’s been dreaming of this very thing since his first term. However, back then, there were various officials in place who kept him from making this drastic move. Now, he has sycophants such as Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, and Pam Bondi around him. They’re not about to tell the President he can’t do something.
This is clearly why so many Trump officials are calling protestors in Portland, Chicago, and other blue cities “insurrectionists.” If they create an insurrection themselves — even though there’s clearly not one going on anywhere in America — then Trump can easily invoke the Insurrection Act and crack down on all the people who don’t agree with him.
Trump seems to want to go to war with America. During Hegseth and Trump’s odd military speech, the talk of the “war from within” was prominent. Trump is now calling Portland a “war-ravaged” place. This is no accident. If they say there’s a war in America, there is, regardless of what the facts are — and then, the Insurrection Act can be passed.
Another Sign of Trump’s Quest to Be a Dictator
Trump has quickly become more authoritarian than any previous U.S. president in less than a year. He doesn’t want any dissent from his own cabinet — or from the American people. His attacks on the Left have only grown with time.
If Trump does sign the Insurrection Act — which people like Stephen Miller are surely pushing him to do — then we’ll be in yet the latest phase of the Trump authoritarian regime.
What will be done to curb Trump’s out-of-control behavior remains to be seen. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker haven’t been scared to publicly go against Trump. Even Kamala Harris has recently called Trump a “communist dictator.”
Of course, these are just words. How the U.S. government deals with a power grab, such as one that Trump may soon take, is still to be determined.
