Politicians are known for carefully choosing their words and taking a measured approach to political communication. But the GOP is throwing that script out of the window every time they have a chance to speak out. The most recent examples include U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, Donald Trump’s trusted advisor Stephen Miller, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Entertainment is the Name of the Game
You could say that the new core of the GOP, especially Republicans who serve in Trump’s administration, are simply inexperienced. They don’t know how to behave in public, and their emotions get the best of them. And you wouldn’t be wrong. All of that is true.
However, the real reason why they don’t have any filter and blow up every time they get an opportunity is that they are in the entertainment business. Forget about politics, that is just a side hustle. The real focus of the GOP is to entertain the MAGA faithful, who love a show. Trump is serving his second term in the White House, despite all of his antics is the perfect example.
Slurs, Rants, And Public Debacles
Last week, GOP stars delivered one spectacular performance after another for MAGA followers. South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace kicked things off by having a slur-filled exchange with a person after being asked whether she would make more town hall appearances this year. Not only was she unembarrassed by her behavior, but she also publicly bragged by posting a video documenting the encounter on social media.
Stephen Miller, who acts as a homeland security advisor and White House deputy chief of staff for policy in Trump’s administration, followed that up with a rant on Fox News. During an interview, Miller went the extra mile to defend Trump’s immigration policy and condemned “communist left-wing judges” for opposing the president. Pete Hegseth also provided amusement for MAGA believers with a public debacle during the White House Easter Egg Roll, going in front of the cameras to cry about the media and its role in the Signal app scandal.
Show Goes On
The GOP has found a winning formula and is sticking to it. As long as they put on a show and provide entertainment for their voters, they can continue making bad political decisions and be safe from repercussions.
