Trump’s Anti-Trans Movement Is Here to Stay

2 Mins read

President Donald Trump has long fueled anti-trans sentiment to invoke a culture war in the United States — and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. For a decade now, conservative politicians have made it their mission to pass as many anti-trans laws as possible.

Though anti-trans bills first started appearing back in 2015, the anti-trans movement has ignited a fury in America. This year, more than 1,000 anti-trans bills were proposed throughout various legislatures in the country.

Trump doesn’t actually care about the anti-trans movement. He only uses it to his benefit to win over extreme voters, make us all hate each other, or to deflect from, say, his horrible economy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter that Trump doesn’t care about the anti-trans movement. His actions — and his propping up of vocal activists — have already been massively destructive to trans rights.

Trump Has Already Destroyed Trans Rights

Since Trump reentered the White House for his second term, his administration has pushed for several anti-trans bills and measures. Already, he has destroyed trans rights. He started this campaign during his first term, but Biden did away with some of his more extreme measures.

Now, his administration is crueler than ever. They’re even attacking former government officials who are trans, changing the names on their official portraits to their birth names, or “dead” names.

If a Democratic nominee wins the presidency in 2028, they will very likely get rid of all of these anti-trans policies that Trump has enacted, much as Biden did. Unfortunately, that all might be too little too late. Analysts have stated that many of these measures are already hurting trans Americans, and policies or laws backed by Supreme Court rulings will take much longer to fix.

Living in the Aftermath of Trump

One day soon, Trump will no longer be president. Regardless of what he says, he cannot run for president again. In 2028, a new president will be elected — but Trump’s anti-trans movement will remain.

After all, it has never been Trump himself who’s been the most fervent anti-trans preacher. It’s been the people around him, such as Stephen Miller, or Project 2025 author Russ Vought. Once Trump is out of the White House, these men will likely try and harness as much power and authority as is possible. They won’t stop until they have a United States that looks and acts like them.

As a result, even when Trump is gone, the anti-trans movement will be here to stay. This hateful movement has harmed trans people around the country. It has also harmed non-transgender women — but it isn’t a surprise that the Trump administration sees all women as lesser, is it?
