The House just voted to kill America’s clean energy momentum. If this bill is passed, China will rule the future of clean energy. This decision is a product of the Republican-backed bill that will gut green energy incentives and EV tax credits.
The Biden administration put these incentives in place as a means of competing with Beijing in the clean energy race. Now, the Trump administration is giving up mid-race while Chinese automakers are rolling out $10,000 electric cars and new five-minute charging batteries. Why would “America First” end with America dead last?
Beijing Accelerates, Washington Stalls
In the clean energy race, China is moving ahead at an alarming pace. Chinese firms dominate 60–80% of global battery, solar, and EV supply chains.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., when the EV tax credits are gone, clean energy projects might end up losing $80 billion in investment. Even with this potential massive loss to the industry, the GOP is still planning to cancel the $7,500 EV tax credit, remove the $4,000 used EV credit, and still levy EV owners an annual $250 tax.
This House proposal will halt the progress of clean energy. Domestic manufacturing will die, and there’ll be no more green jobs. At this point, Washington has surrendered the future of clean energy to Beijing.
“America First” Just Boosted China’s Economy
Trump officials have said they aren’t interested in fighting China for clean tech leadership. They claim the U.S. can’t win the race. Never would citizens have imagined a U.S. president conceding defeat in any way to another country, but Trump just did.
The current administration has chosen to focus on fossil fuels instead. That is why they are going about cutting clean energy incentives.
Funny enough, a lot of red states will be affected, where several solar, battery, and EV plants are located. Sadly, 160,000 jobs could be lost if Biden’s clean energy policies are reversed.
In an era when governments of other countries are doubling down on clean energy manufacturing, the U.S. is doing all it can to dismantle clean energy policies. EV tax credits are geopolitical weapons, and removing them is simply telling China, “You win.”
