Donald Trump will place his name on almost everything you can imagine: from hotels and airlines to Trump Vodka and Trump Board Game. But this has become an increasing issue during his presidency. He is now using his position to put his name where it definitely doesn’t belong.
Trump Next to Kennedy
Trump recently conducted one of the most outrageous brand placements when he added his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The decision was made by the board of trustees, mainly consisting of Trump appointees. The center, which was renamed by Congress after Kennedy’s assassination in 1993, will now be called The Trump Kennedy Center. Trump acted surprised when the news broke out, saying that “the board is a very distinguished board, most distinguished people in the country, and I was surprised by it.”
The decision drew criticism from members of the Kennedy family. JFK’s niece said on social media that “President Kennedy proudly stood for justice, peace, equality, dignity, diversity, and compassion for those who suffer. President Trump stands in opposition to these values, and his name should not be placed alongside President Kennedy’s.” Others questioned the legality of the move. The U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty filed a lawsuit, saying that any name change requires an “act of Congress.” Jazz musician Chuck Redd also canceled his scheduled concert in protest.

The renaming of the Kennedy Center is just the latest stage in Trump’s brand expansion. In early December, he also placed his name on the U.S. Institute of Peace. Last week, he announced that the U.S. Navy will order a new fleet of battleships. They will apparently be part of a new class of vessels called “Trump Class.” He also introduced a government program called “Trump Gold Card” and managed to get his face on the National Park passes.
Trump has bigger and bolder plans. He would reportedly love to have the new stadium of the NFL’s Washington Commanders named after him. His other goals include placing his name on Washington Dulles International Airport and rebranding the Washington D.C. metro system to “Trump Train.”

He Knows History Will Forget Him
Trump may be well aware that history will forget him or won’t remember him for anything good. This is likely the main reason for his rush to put his name on everything. As he himself once said: “You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you.”
