Trump Is Now Extorting the DOJ

2 Mins read

President Donald Trump’s extortion scheme continues. After successfully forcing universities and law firms to fork over huge sums of money — or else — Trump has now set his sights on the Department of Justice.

Trump is demanding the DOJ pay him compensation from when the Justice Department investigated him in 2016 on claims of Russian interference, as well as for allegations that he stole classified documents when he left the White House after his first term.

Trump is asking for a whopping $230 million in damages. Unfortunately, it looks like he just might get all of this taxpayer money. After all, not one of his extortion schemes hasn’t worked yet.

Trump Demands $230 Million of Taxpayer Money

First and foremost, the fact that this is all taxpayer money — and that a sitting president is demanding to be paid by his own DOJ — is highly unethical. It’s also likely illegal, as a president cannot receive any compensation from the government other than his salary. That’s clearly not going to stop Trump. He’s already even claimed that he’s the “one that makes the decision.” So far, all signs point to the president indeed getting all this taxpayer money.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will be one of the government officials who makes this decision on whether or not Trump gets paid. As can be expected, he’s a Trump disciple and even used to be the president’s former personal attorney. Why wouldn’t he sign off on giving the president $230 million?

The President Keeps Lying — and Keeps Getting Richer

After news of this extortion scheme broke, Trump agreed that it was an “awfully strange” situation, yet didn’t back down from requesting the millions of dollars. Instead, he claimed that he would give the money to charity. He clearly isn’t worried about how taxpayers will feel about what happens to their own hard-earned money they’ve paid in taxes.

Of course, there’s no reason to believe that Trump is telling the truth about giving this money to charity. After all, he’s a proven liar. One only needs to go back a few days to see his blatant lies about tearing down the East Wing of the White House — something the Trump administration said wasn’t going to happen, yet indeed did.

Since becoming president, Trump has forced media organizations to settle lawsuits, law firms to cough up money, and even universities to pay up. Clearly, he’s not going to stop getting as much money as he can.

In just the last ten months since becoming president, Trump’s net worth has jumped by $3 billion. At the rate he’s going, it’ll likely continue to rise with each passing month he stays in the White House.
