The Republican Party must be really happy with themselves. They control the White House, they control the Senate, and judging by the look of things, they are destroying the Democrats from within. After they managed to get Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer to allow their funding bill to pass, Republicans now only need to sit back and enjoy the chaos. And the chaos is brewing.
What was Schumer Even Thinking?
Being able to halt the Republican bill was one of the rare aces that the Democrats had up their sleeve. Without the bill, President Donald Trump and his trusty sidekick and crypto bro Elon Musk would at least have to do some work in order to continue pushing their DOGE agenda. Sure, it would come at the risk of a shutdown, but you need to take some risks to fight for what you believe in, right?
Well, apparently Chuck Schumer wasn’t thinking along these lines. He decided to roll over, give the Republicans even more power, and ensure that his paycheck continues to clear every month. According to him, a government shutdown would allow “DOGE to shift into overdrive.” In reality, his actions allowed DOGE to shift into cruise mode without any bumps on the road.
A Lot of Democrats Are Fuming
Understandably, a lot of Democrats are fuming because of Schumer’s actions. He not only handed over all the leverage that his party was holding but also received praise from Trump himself, who congratulated him “for doing the right thing.” When Trump says you are “doing the right thing,” you are probably not.
Maryland representative Glenn Ivey was the first one to publicly go after Chuck Schumer, saying that it “may be time for the Senate Democrats to get a new leader.” Shortly after that, Illinois’ Delia Ramirez advised Schumer to either “retire or resign.”
Chuck Schumer Should Be Packing His Bags
It is clear that Chuck Schumer doesn’t know how to stand up to the Republicans or come up with a strategy that would at least make it harder for them to push their agendas. Instead of taking a harder stance and at least asking for concessions in exchange for his support, he simply stopped fighting. He should pack his bags and make a place for someone who will at least try.
