Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced via his Instagram account on Wednesday, August 2 , that he and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, are separating. Trudeau stated that after numerous meaningful and difficult conversations with Sophie, they have decided to part ways. He emphasized that despite their separation, they remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and everything they have built together. Trudeau also requested privacy for the well-being of their children.
The Prime Minister’s office confirmed that the couple has signed a legal separation agreement. They have taken all necessary legal and ethical steps regarding their decision to separate and will continue to do so in the future.
Justin Trudeau met Sophie Grégoire in Montreal in 2002 after spending several years teaching in Vancouver. They got married in 2005 and have three children together, named Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau graduated in communications from the University of Montreal, worked in sales and advertising, and later became a television and radio reporter.
In an Instagram post celebrating their wedding anniversary, Sophie expressed that long-term relationships are challenging and require constant work, flexibility, compromise, sacrifice, devotion, patience, and effort. Despite the challenges, she believed that love is true when it provides safety, freedom, and growth.The couple was seen attending King Charles’ coronation in London in May and had a meeting with US President Joe Biden in March. They have asked the public and media to respect their privacy during this period of separation.
