The US State Department announced, Friday, that the United States intends to receive 125,000 refugees during the next fiscal year 2022.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that “President Joe Biden today reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to welcoming refugees bypassing the Presidential Resolution on Refugee Admissions.
Blinken emphasized that during consultations with members of Congress, the State Department committed to rebuilding the US refugee admissions program in line with the tradition of offering hope and safe haven to that fleeing persecution, “We will work hard to rebuild program infrastructure, including by strengthening our refugee processing systems, providing new funding at the local and state level to strengthen the capacity of our local resettlement partners, and expanding community care programmes,”.
