In a bold move, Amazon decided to display the impact of Trump’s tariffs on product prices on its website. The online retailer’s plans for Amazon tariffs display sent the White House into a flurry of whining and complaining.
MAGA mouthpiece and Trump’s most devoted sycophant, Karoline Leavitt, criticized the Amazon tariffs display as a “hostile and political act.” In the White House’s press briefing, Karoline claimed that Amazon’s decision to show the truth about the tariffs is a deliberate attempt to undermine Trump’s economic policies.
Karoline Leavitt shamelessly played the “Biden card” with a smug expression, questioning, “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” While Leavitt and the MAGA crowd struggled to understand basic economic concepts, Donald Trump called Jeff Bezos to whine about the Amazon tariffs display.

Trump’s Trade War Reaches Amazon Shelves
Punchbowl News first reported on the Amazon tariffs display. The news organization reported that the online retail giant will soon “display how much of an item’s cost is derived from tariffs.” The move could directly display the truth of how Trump’s tariffs are affecting the average American consumer. Trump has slapped 145% tariffs on imports from China and a 10% minimum tax on all other countries.
Amazon relies heavily on third-party sellers, who account for more than 60% of all Amazon’s orders. These sellers are heavily dependent on imports from China and other Southeast Asian countries. Amazon has clarified that these sellers will be passing on the tariff burden to the consumers.
As a recent example, we can look at Zulay Kitchen, a US-based seller on Amazon. Zulay increased the price of their kitchen strainer from $9.99 to $12.99 because of Trump’s tariffs. That’s a straight-up 30% hike that consumers have to pay from their pockets. SmartScout, an Amazon FBA software, revealed that consumers can expect a 29% average price hike on more than 930 products in categories like clothing, electronics, and household goods.
Amazon Tariffs Display Reversed Amid Backlash From White House
According to CNN, President Trump personally called Jeff Bezos to whine about the Amazon tariffs display. Amazon was quick to bow down to Trump in a bid to retain favor from the White House.
Amazon denied every claim that they would be going ahead with the Amazon tariffs display options. An Amazon spokesperson released a public statement stating, “The team that runs our ultra-low-cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products. This was never approved and is not going to happen.”
Trump was elated to see Amazon bend backward to please him. He even called Jeff Bezos “very nice,” “terrific,” and a “good guy,” after he solved the “problem” very quickly.
Unlike Amazon, China-based e-commerce platforms, like Temu and Shein, have already started displaying “import charges,” directly reflecting the impact of Trump’s tariffs at checkout.
