X CEO Elon Musk announced his intention to donate $45 million a month to a new super political-action committee (PAC) supporting former president Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, as the Wall Street Journal reported. Despite reports of his significant contribution, Musk was not listed on a Monday filing from America PAC, which disclosed it had raised over $8 million.

Other notable donors to the PAC include 8VC co-founder Joe Lonsdale, former U.S. ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft, and investor twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The Wall Street Journal cited a person familiar with the matter as the source of this information. As of the first day of the Republican National Convention, Elon Musk stands out as the only Fortune 100 CEO to fully endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential race.
Musk’s Full Endorsement and Political History
The SpaceX CEO publicly endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk wrote on X, sharing a video of the incident where a bullet struck Trump’s right ear. Musk has a history of voting for Democratic candidates, including President Joe Biden, in the past three election cycles. However, in recent years, he has expressed frustration with Democratic policies, such as Biden’s unwavering support for labor unions and decisions regarding immigration and border control.
Earlier this year, Elon Musk vowed not to contribute financially to Trump or Biden’s campaigns. “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President,” he wrote on March 6. Despite this previous stance, his recent actions indicate a shift in his political involvement.
