Chris Pratt has established himself as an action hero thanks to the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises. Known for playing tough but quirky heroes, Pratt has survived dinosaurs and tyrannical aliens. But bees? Now that’s a different story.
Thursday, December 22, Pratt shared a video on Instagram detailing his recent battle. Starting off by sporting a pair of sunglasses, he removed them later in the post to reveal a swollen left eyelid. Apparently, he decided to try his hand at beekeeping, and things did not quite go as planned.
Like many other plans that go awry, Pratt was inspired by social media to “control bees.” He explained in the video, “So I’ve been following this bee lady on Instagram, she’s so cool and brave, and she goes in front of these hives of bees and says, ‘They’re very calm today. I’m going to remove the bee and use my bare hands to sift through the bees and look for the queen.’”
Claiming this bee charmer created a “false sense of security,” Pratt decided to try the technique himself. Upon seeing a beehive earlier this week, the 43-year-old actor thought the bees looked “very calm.” However, he quickly changed his mind when a bee stung him in the eyeball.
The actor took off his sunglasses to reveal the injury after stating, “F%&$ that bee lady!” Chris Pratt identified her as Erika Thompson, who goes by the Instagram handle @texasbeeworks. Pratt doesn’t appear to have any hard feelings toward the professional beekeeper, as he also posted, “you inspire me!”
Thompson herself responded to the post and urged the Marvel star to focus on tasks he was more familiar with. Chris Pratt might not have a future as a bee whisperer, but audiences can look forward to seeing him as Nintendo’s iconic plumber in the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
