The Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, which takes place Friday evening, December 2, in Boston and will be attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton, is going to be headlined by Billie Eilish. Other acts include the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, the legendary Annie Lennox, and Ellie Goulding. There will also be some surprise acts.
Goulding has previously performed at the 2011 wedding reception of Earthshot’s guests of honor: the Prince and Princess of Wales. Prince William and Princess Kate will arrive in Boston on Wednesday, November 30. It will be the first time the royals visit the United States since 2014. It is also their first visit since receiving their new titles after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
Their Royal Highnesses will receive a welcome ceremony at Boston’s City Hall on Wednesday, attended by Caroline Kennedy and Mayor Michelle Wu. As the Earthshot Prizes focus on the environment, many Boston landmarks, including City Hall, will be illuminated in green to celebrate the event.
The award was started by Prince William and the Royal Foundation, and it was first awarded in 2021. Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 “moonshot” challenge to see a man walk on the moon within ten years, Prince William was inspired to create the Earthshot Prize. The endeavor aims to discover ways to help heal our planet within a decade. Each year, five winners receive $1 million each to provide an environmental solution that will contribute to Earth’s sustainability by 2030.
This year, the JFK Foundation partnered with the Earthshot team to hold the 2022 ceremony in Boston. Before the big event, Prince William will tour the JFK Presidential Library and Museum with the late president’s sister, Caroline.
The scheduled musicians and regal couple will not be the only stars present for this prestigious event. Actors Rami Malek, Catherine O’Hara, Daniel Dae Kim, and Shailene Woodley will take on the roles of hosts and presenters. Princess Kate herself will present one of the awards as she did last year, and Prince William is scheduled to give the closing remarks.
The ceremony will be broadcast worldwide on Sunday, December 4. For those in attendance, it promises to be an evening fit for royalty.
