Elon Musk’s name was featured in yesterday’s headlines once again, but this time it had nothing to do with Twitter. As former spouses Amber Heard and Johnny Depp face off against each other in court, Musk was mentioned yesterday in their defamation case.
Heard and Depp met while co-starring in 2011’s The Rum Diary and began dating in 2012. They married in 2015 and divorced in 2017. Johnny Depp was never one to downplay his drug and alcohol use — this was used against him as Heard detailed their volatile relationship, in which she claims Depp abused her. Yet, Depp is the one who claims he was the victim of abuse. Though never naming him directly, Heard wrote an op-ed about being a victim of domestic abuse that was published by The Washington Post in 2018.
Heard’s indirect accusation essentially ended Depp’s lauded acting career. He is suing Heard for $50 million in the defamation case currently underway in Fairfax, Virginia. She is countersuing him in a highly publicized trial that is putting their personal life on full display to the world. On April 28, 2022, Heard’s former agent Christian Carino weighed in on her relationship with the world’s richest man.
Heard had a year-long relationship with Elon Musk from 2017 to 2018. According to Vanity Fair, Carino testified that this was no more than the actress “filling space” as she hoped for a reconciliation with Depp. In text messages from August 2017, Heard tells Carino that she is dealing with the breakup and is “so sad.” He responded that her messages sounded like a “press release” and stated Heard was not in love with Musk.
The bombshell in these texts is Carino pointing out to Heard that “you told me you were just filling space.” This could be a key piece of evidence in the high-profile case built on Heard’s word against Depp. It also begs the question that if Depp was indeed as abusive as his ex-wife claims, why did she have hopes of a reconciliation with him?
Carino also advised Heard that if she wanted to stop her personal life from being made public, she should stop dating “uber-famous” men — very wise words from an A-list agent who also testified that Heard’s accusations against Depp have undoubtedly affected his career for the worst.
