Montavio – Pick It Up! (Official Music Video)

Operating as both the brain and the heart behind all the looks and visual concepts attached to his music, there is one clear message that seems to shine through each track: It’s ok to cry with a smile. Growing up on the south side of a city like Springfield, Ohio, Montavio struggled to find an identity that matched how he felt inside. Being black and queer in an envoronment riddled with notions of what it really means to be black, or a man at all, he struggled to express his own individuality. 

Music is what gave him relief from the expectations of his surroundings and allowed him to express his emotions, no matter how vulnerable. From learning his first chords on the piano, to producing his first beat, to making his first full song, each step brought him closer to realizing one thing; music is the only thing that made him happy. Through the loss of his father, a bad relationship and a deep depression, music taught him to cry with a smile. 

For the past two years Montavio has slowly been building momentum, showing more emotion and yet another side of his artistry with each release. The latest track from up and coming artist Montavio is titled  “DULMY?” (Do You Love Me Yet?). A Pop-infused R&B track with passionate vocals over a smooth instrumental and a hard hitting chorus, DULMY? is an enjoyable listen from start to finish. You can listen to him croon over this lofi/trap inspired beat along with all of his other music on all streaming platforms. Mid-tempo and grove heavy, Montavio’s music is a perfect vibe for the club and at home.
