Ryan McGann and Colleen Power – Dreams for the Future

Ryan McGann is an Associate in the Institutional Equity Division at Morgan Stanley, and Colleen Power is an Associate in the Private Wealth Solutions group at Blackstone, in New York City.

Ryan McGann and Colleen Power first met in 2009 when they were both starting high school together, and they quickly became close friends. They have been dating for a little over ten years.

Colleen Power and Ryan McGann will be married on June 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at The Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity, 506 Westfield Ave in Westfield, NJ 07090. 

Ryan McGann and Colleen Power recently took some time to share a few thoughts and reflections about their relationship, and some of the lessons they have learned along the way.

What are the other person’s quirks or personality traits that you love?

RM – My favorite quirk of Colleen is she is always willing to make light of a situation and joke about herself or us. This can calm a tense situation or take the pressure off someone else. It is a very selfless and humble way to continue a conversation.

CP – My favorite “quirk” of Ryan’s is his laugh. He has an absolutely infectious laugh that will light up any room. Going along with that, I love his sense of humor. He can be very silly and goofy and is always looking to make those around him laugh and have a good time.

How are you better together than without the other person?

I have a tendency not to stop and think things through and just start doing. I think the best way to approach a challenge or decision is to start acting. Colleen helps me slow down, think things through and enjoy the experience. We are also more likely to relax and enjoy life’s little moments together rather than push through and not stop to look around.

Thinking of your relationship, what advice would you give to others?

Time moves fast. Stop and enjoy the ride. When I think back to when we first met, moved in together, planned our engagement, and planned a wedding together, it all flies by. While I had the ring and was planning a surprise engagement all I wanted to do was for it to be over and be engaged, but that was a very exciting time. You will continue to have those stressful yet exciting changes in life, and enjoy every step of the way. You get many ‘firsts,’ but you only get one of each, so enjoy each and every one of them.

Can you think of long-standing inside jokes, teases, nicknames, or phrases for or with each other?

Our nicknames for each other have been built out of jokes in moments when we are being silly with one another. Colleen’s top nickname for Ryan is RyRy and Ryan refers to Colleen as sweetie. Colleen disliked the nickname which was initially born out of a joke but has grown to love it and gets a kick out of it each time Ryan calls her that.

What are some of the activities that you share together?

We both love to run and have run a bunch of marathons and other road races. We love getting up early on the weekends and heading out for a run and then coming back and sharing a big breakfast together. We also enjoy trying new restaurants. We both like most foods and love trying new restaurants, whether they be in New York or the destination we are traveling to. Travel is also a big one for us – we’ve been to so many places in the U.S. and abroad together and cherish each time we can hit a new spot on our travel bucket list.

What are your dreams for the future together?

We have a lot of dreams but keep the future open to fate. While we like to dream together, we keep our plans loose enough to let opportunity step in. We plan to continue to build our careers and settle down in the New York City area. We’d love to keep doing the activities we love and trying new things together. We treasure the fact that each day we have together is a gift and hope we spend many, many years together creating countless memories.
