Actress Lucy Hale, best known for her role in “Pretty Little Liars,” celebrated a major personal milestone on January 2, 2023, when she marked one year of sobriety. She took to Instagram on Valentine’s Day to share the news with her followers in what she called an “alternative Valentine’s Day post.”
“This is a post about self-love and about the greatest thing I’ve ever done,” Hale wrote in the caption of a photo she posted of a pink cake covered in sprinkles. “While this journey has mostly been private, I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved.”
Hale’s co-stars from “Pretty Little Liars” were quick to show their support, with Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse commenting with emojis. Troian Bellisario also shared a heartfelt message of congratulations, calling Hale’s decision to quit alcohol “brave” and “inspirational.” Tyler J. Blackburn shared his “respect and love” for Hale as well.
Hale had previously spoken about her decision to quit drinking in a 2017 interview with Byrdie, saying that she had turned to SoulCycle instead, calling it her “version of church.” The actress had previously credited alcohol with helping her become a “social butterfly” but noted that she was “always trying to surround myself with better people and be the best version of myself possible.”
Last month, Hale spoke about her “picky…standards” for romantic partners on an episode of “Broad Ideas With Rachel Bilson,” where she shared her “non-negotiables” for a committed relationship. Despite not being in a serious relationship “for years and years,” Hale remains optimistic, saying, “I refuse to believe that’s not out there…I just have to be patient.”
Hale’s decision to mark her one year of sobriety publicly is sure to inspire and encourage others who are struggling with addiction. Congratulations to Lucy Hale on this major achievement!
