Kit Harington Shocking Confession: “I Called Myself a C–t” Before Sobriety

2 Mins read

The actor Kit Harington, who is most recognized for his role in “Game of Thrones,” has talked candidly about his sober path and said that one of his biggest “achievements” is being “proud” of his sobriety. The 37-year-old actor discussed the difficulties he had throughout his journey to recovery in an interview with GQ Hype. His journey started in 2019 when he entered a rehab facility. Kit Harington openly talked about how despair and suicidal thoughts plagued his path to recovery.

Struggles Before Sobriety and Personal Transformation

Soon after becoming sober, Kit Harington admitted, he struggled with severe self-loathing. I used to look in the mirror and refer to myself as a c-t before I got sober. I would be hateful of myself. In the interview that was released on Monday, August 12, he stated, “I would literally despise myself and not be proud of anything I had done.” The actor explained how he was in a sad place since he was unable to take pride in anything he had accomplished. However, he underwent a profound personal shift as a result of his successful sober journey. “I was unable to feel pleased. Thus, the fact that I am proud of my sobriety speaks for itself—I am a completely different person,” he thought.

Impact of Sobriety on Family Life and Future Concerns

Kit Harington, who is married to Rose Leslie and has two kids, thanked her for helping him maintain sobriety before becoming a father. He acknowledged that he had once thought it would be “physically and emotionally impossible” for him to stop drinking and said he felt “so lucky” to have sobered up before having children. As for the future, Kit Harington acknowledged that he was unsure but acknowledged that he might relapse. He said to GQ Hype, “I might have one massive, messy, chaotic relapse, and I hope that does not happen.” “But I believe that by talking about it, I protect myself.”

The Journey to Sobriety and Support from Loved Ones

Just weeks before the “Game of Thrones” finale, revealed in May 2019 that Kit Harington had checked into the opulent Connecticut wellness retreat Privé-Swiss. At the clinic, which charges more than $120,000 a month, the British actor received psychological coaching and learned mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy as coping mechanisms for stressful situations and negative emotions. Rose Leslie, 37, who plays Ygritte, Jon Snow’s Wildling companion, and whom he met on the set of “GoT,” was “extremely supportive” during his recuperation. According to Harington’s buddy, “Kit was really hit hard by the end of ‘GoT’.” “This is it, this is the end,” he realized. They had all put in a great deal of effort on it for a long time. For a minute, he wondered, “What next?”

A spokesman for the “Eternals” star at the time verified, “Kit has chosen to use this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”
