Trials and Tribulations: Will Georgia’s Trial Tear Her Family Apart in Season 3

2 Mins read

After ending on a cliffhanger in the last season, Netflix’s Ginny and Georgia is back in Season 3, with more emotional drama, but now in the courtroom. Yes, gone are Georgia’s wedding gown and broad smiles, as after her arrest at her wedding with Paul, the mayor of Wellsbury. Accused of murdering the terminally ill husband of her dubious friend, Cynthia, Georgia faces trial as her family grapples with the consequences of her actions.

Murder Trials And Family Ties

In season 3 of Ginny and Georgia, the ugly past Georgia has been running from finally catches up to her in the town where she went for a fresh start. While she is feeling defeated by the circumstances, Ginny steps up to try to save her mother, using manipulation and blackmail to turn court proceedings in her favour. However, this new development has left the family more broken and disconnected than ever as Ginny faces the vitriol of her classmates and suffers through their whispers, and Austin is coerced by his father, Gil, who tries to turn him against his mother. Both children are suffering the consequences of Georgia’s actions, made evident in the finale when Ginny tells her, “We carry the weight too. We always have.”

The Father Who Stepped Up?

This year, Ginny and Georgia is all about exploring family bonds, and another development in season 3 is Zion, Ginny’s father and Georgia’s ex, filing for custody of Ginny. While this may have caused a rise in Georgia in previous seasons, now she finally accepts it. Ginny wanting Zion to have custody is also a step in their relationship and could bring Ginny, Georgia, and Zion together as a family.

A Friend In Need? How Georgia’s Relationship With Her Husband Changes As The Trial Continues

Paul and Georgia are newly wed when the season starts, but as the trial progresses, the strain on their relationship becomes evident. Georgia’s past and present actions are in the public eye, and that is damaging Paul’s reputation and status as mayor of the small town. This becomes damning for their relationship as, according to creator of the show Sarah Lampert, “When [their marriage] starts to become threatened, we see Paul and her relationship put under serious strain, because perception and outside presentation is hugely important to both of them,”

Season 3 has shown these strong characters at their most emotionally vulnerable and set the stage for an even more emotionally charged season 4.
