Billie Eilish shared on Conan O’Brien’s podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” the reason why she decided to steer clear of social media. The 21-year-old Grammy winner disclosed that she had deleted social media apps from her phone to distance herself from it. During the interview, Eilish and her brother Finneas also discussed their concerns about the internet and how easily it can make people “gullible.”

According to Eilish, she tends to believe anything she reads online, despite knowing that most of it is untrue. She acknowledged that the internet is filled with small lies that people tend to overlook but believe anyway. She recounted an experience where she and her boyfriend watched a video of someone defaming her character without even knowing her personally. The video presented her as a horrible person, and the person in the video appeared confident in their stance, making Eilish feel amazed at the situation.

Eilish expressed her concerns about how people make definitive statements about her without knowing her and how such statements are often treated as facts. She believes that people are willing to accept these lies as the truth, even without any proof. As a result, Eilish has deleted all social media platforms from her device, which she admits was a significant decision for her. Despite growing up in a time when the internet was perfect, Eilish has observed how it has transformed over time.

Billie Eilish further revealed that as a preteen and teenager, she felt like she was part of the internet community. However, as she grew older and continued to do what she loved, she began to see videos and content online that pertained to her. She expressed her distaste for the fact that she was now the subject of internet content and how it made her feel uncomfortable.

Additionally, Eilish pointed out how paparazzi photos of her are often used to create false narratives that are presented as the truth online. For example, a photo of her at the gym could be used to make it seem like she was working on her album in a studio. Eilish finds it strange that people feel the need to lie about such small things and wonders how much of the information she consumed online over the years was also untrue.

In the age of the internet and social media, many people, including celebrities like Billie Eilish, are increasingly concerned about the impact of online content on our lives. Eilish’s decision to distance herself from social media highlights the importance of being mindful of the information we consume online and the potential harm that false information and negativity can cause. As we navigate the digital landscape, it is crucial to prioritize our mental health and well-being by engaging with online content responsibly and critically.
