Ashton Kutcher has addressed the viral response to his red-carpet appearance with Reese Witherspoon, who stars alongside him in the upcoming Netflix film “Your Place or Mine.” The reason behind his awkward behavior was equal parts sweet and adorable.
During a recent guest spot on the podcast Chicks in the Office, the boyishly charming actor revealed that the awkwardness was intentional. “So, here’s the deal: If I put my arm around Reese just to be friendly, it means we’re having an affair,” he said before quickly clarifying, “The press and public would be convinced we are having an affair.”
If those rumors wouldn’t be awkward enough, Witherspoon has been friends with Kutcher’s wife, Mila Kunis, for many years. Kunis certainly noticed her hubby’s efforts as she sent the co-stars a message teasing them about their lack of red-carpet chemistry. Witherspoon said that working with Kutcher was “a lot of fun” and that he is “such a funny guy” with whom she shares a similar sense of humor.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis famously co-starred on That 70’s Show, which ran from 1998-2006. It took nearly 15 years before they became a real-life couple. They started “casually dating” in 2012, got engaged in 2014, and married on July 4, 2015.
Before their off-camera romance began, both actors were in high-profile relationships. Kutcher was married to Demi Moore from 2005-2011. In January 2011, Kunis went through a “horrible breakup” with Macaulay Culkin, whom she dated for eight years.
Your Place or Mine tells the story of Debbie and Peter, who are best friends and total opposites. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they need. The film is directed by Aline Brosh McKenna and co-produced by McKenna, Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, Lauren Neustadter, and Witherspoon.
Kutcher’s red-carpet appearance with Witherspoon was all in good fun, and the two stars share a great working relationship. Fans can look forward to watching their on-screen chemistry in Your Place or Mine when the film premieres on Netflix Friday, February 10.
