Money is a touchy subject for a large percentage of the population. It’s easy to grow up with a negative money mindset that teaches you that it’s bad to create wealth. Derrick Kinney is a coach for Good Money Framework and the host of the Good Money Good Hands Good Work podcast, and he’s working every day to create positive money mindsets.
What’s the story of creating your company?
I have had a financial planning and investment business for over 25 years. While I enjoyed the work, I knew I wanted to help people on a larger scale. I recently sold the company to pursue teaching others about money full-time. I coach people individually with my Good Money Framework concepts, which I also cover on my podcast Good Money Good Hands Good Work.
What drives you to be passionate about your profession?
I think so many people could be making more money to live a more stable lifestyle. However, they have misconceptions from their childhood, telling them that money is bad and people who make it are selfish or evil. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I love seeing students finally get it and hearing about successes.
What do you think people most need to learn about money?
To make more money, you should find a way to create passive income. This means that you can set up systems to make money for you, then let them run and watch the money come in. You shouldn’t have to exchange your time for money if you don’t want to. This is one of the most stressful ways to live, and I try to steer my clients away from that.
How do you incorporate giving into your work?
Giving more is part of my 7-part Good Money Framework. I believe that everyone should have a giving purpose, an extremely passionate cause they want to give to. Once they’ve identified it, they’ll start making more and giving more.
Where do you see yourself in a few years?
I want to create a money revolution, a movement. Our concept will be part of the culture. I want to create books and start speaking in public to move along our goals.
