Eric Spofford Details How He Went From High School Dropout to Nine-Figure Business Owner

2 Mins read

Successful entrepreneur Eric Spofford is an inspiration to entrepreneurial hopefuls ready to embark on exciting, new opportunities. Plenty of people know his name and recognize him as the founder of one of the biggest addiction treatment businesses on the East Coast, who recently sold the business for over nine figures, but not everyone knows his story.

Looking at Eric today, most would be surprised to learn that Eric was addicted to drugs from the tender age of 15 until he was 22, when he officially decided to seek help for his addiction. Of course, because he was in active addiction as a teenager, he dropped out of school in 10th grade and never pursued college.

“A lot of people ask me how I’ve become so successful as someone who was once addicted to drugs and never finished high school. It’s all because of recovery. When I realized I had enough, I decided to get help. There were a lot of challenges, but I dealt with them head-on. Once I found recovery, I knew it was time to think about what I wanted to do in life, which is when I decided to start a treatment business myself,” shared Eric Spofford. “I’m a genuinely caring person who loves to help others, so it felt right to serve people dealing with the same problem I experienced. I’ve learned a lot over the years of running a business that helped tens of thousands of people overcome addiction.”

Remaining dedicated to the business for several years made it possible for Eric to scale it, helping it grow and thrive for years to come. Only recently, he agreed to sell to a private equity-backed strategic buyer for more than nine figures, knowing that the business is in good hands and will continue to save the lives of thousands of people ready to focus on getting help with addiction.

“Although I’ve sold the business, my love for helping people won’t stop. I’ve decided to pursue the real estate industry because of the ability to implement my vision and currently manage a midnine-figure mixed portfolio of multi-family and commercial properties through my business, Spofford Enterprises. However, I’m still there for the people,” said Spofford. “I always make sure to find time to offer advice to those looking for help. I like to provide tips and ideas to people who want to become entrepreneurs but aren’t sure if it’s possible without going to college first. I’m proof that you don’t need college to make things work.”

Spending up to 16 hours per day while working seven days a week, Eric Spofford continues to scale his business and build a legacy for himself. He wants the world to know that the past doesn’t define you. Despite his rough past, dropping out of high school, and battling drug addiction, he’s made it further than most thought possible and hopes to inspire others to do the same.
