As per the latest reports, the recovery seems to be going well. ESPN reported from Augusta, Georgia, that Woods plans on participating in this year’s Masters tournament. Having won 15 major titles, Woods is now on the cusp of winning a sixth green jacket. If he does, he will tie with the iconic Jack Nicklaus for the most wins in the history of the tournament.
At a news conference held yesterday, Woods announced, “As of right now, I feel like I am going to play.” Detailing his condition after the accident, he stated, “My recovery has been good. I’ve been very excited about how I’ve recovered each and every day, and that’s been the challenge.”
This decision was made after playing a practice round last week, accompanied by his son Charlie and close friend Justin Thomas. This game prompted Woods to announce he was coming to the Augusta National Golf Club to keep practicing and make a “game time” decision on whether or not he would make his return to competitive golf at the Masters Tournament.
Not only does Woods feel like he is going to play, but he also feels like he could win. At Tuesday’s news conference, he told reporters that he could hit “just fine,” but the problem was walking on his injured leg. However, he called the 72 holes a tough challenge that he was up for. Known for his competitive spirit and love of the game, Woods summed up this mentality with his statement, “I don’t show up to an event unless I think I can win it.”
