Hamas’s ring leader Ismail Haniyeh was slaughtered in Iran’s Tehran in the early morning of July 31st, Wednesday.
Hamas accused Israel of attacking Iran which killed their leader Ismail Haniyeh in a major revolution. Haniyeh came into Tehran early on Wednesday morning for the inauguration of the Iranian President. The new leader of Iran has already warned of military, so this has further worsened the scenario.

Senior Hamas official Haniyeh was assassinated at home in Tehran. Although the Revolutionary Guard of Iran declared him dead, they did not reveal the identity of the attacker or the circumstances of the incident. But Haniyeh was assassinated “in a Zionist airstrike on his residence in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration of Iran’s new president,” according to Hamas, which has implicated Israel.
In a statement, Hamas declared, “Hamas declares to the great Palestinian people and the people of the Arab and Islamic nations and all the free people of the world, brother leader Ismail Haniyeh a martyr.”
Iran’s Response and International Reactions
Although they have not released a statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has also verified Haniyeh’s passing. Early this morning, an attack on Ismail Haniyeh’s Tehran residence killed him and one of his guards. They claimed, “The cause is being looked into and will be revealed soon.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the killing. Nonetheless, Israel has previously expressed intentions to eliminate Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders after the group’s deadly attack on October 7, which killed 1,200 people and led to 250 kidnappings in Israel.
Iran’s apex Leader Ali Khamenei remarked, “We believe that revenge is our duty,” and also vowed to do a retribution. Hamas Political Bureau member, Musa Abu Marzouk expressed that “The assassination of Leader Ismail Haniyeh is an act of cowardice and will not be in vain.” The Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, described the slaughter as “a dangerous development and an act of cowardice.”
Both Russia and Iran have denounced the act as an “unacceptable political assassination”. The deputy foreign minister of Russia, Mikhail Bogdanov, said, “This is an absolutely unacceptable political assassination, and it will lead to further escalation of tension.”

In 2019, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, Haniyeh left the Gazan Strip and went to Qatar. He was present in Tehran for the president’s inauguration at the time of the assassination. His presence in Iran served as proof of the deep bonds held between Iran’s government and Hamas.
Meanwhile, Yehya Sinwar, the top Hamas leader in Gaza, is believed to be hiding in the group’s extensive tunnel system. Sinwar orchestrated the October 7 attack on Israel, which has further strained regional relations.

The airstrike that killed Haniyeh comes at a critical juncture as the Biden administration tries to mediate a deal between Hamas and Israel to halt the fighting and secure the release of hostages in the Palestinian enclave.
